Help required.....Have a 53reg sti that gets a flat battery within a week,if stood.Has anybody had the same problem,if so whats the answer.Thanks in advance.

 

Disconnect whatever is draining it ..............

Interior light isn't on permanent is it?? Boot light even??

Told by dealer that its possibly the tracker or alarm,and if i disconnect the battery it would cause other problems.

 

I had this occuring for a while, after the battery drained whilst we were on two weeks hol. Again, the security/alarm system is the big drain. In the end had to get a new battery and no probs. since - although car only stands for max. of five days without being started.

If I had to leave for more than one week, I'd probably leave car immobilised on 'superlock' mode as I was told this is far less drain on the battery.

 

Probably the tracker m8 if the battery is sound.
They will repair it for you, it's a known fault where it does not go into sleep mode after 1hr as it should.

Easy fix.

 

The answer to this is well documented on here. The reason the battery goes flat is because the so called smart alternator doesn't charge the battery whilst you're driving if you don't use any electrical equipment. Hence in summer, when you hardly ever use lights, heaters, wipers etc, the battery isn't getting any charge, and yet takes a massive hit each time you start her up, and a small constant drain whilst left due to security systems.

The simple answer is to leave the sidelights on permanently. If you take voltmeter readings from either side of the alternator with the engine running and no electrical items operating it will read 0V. Turn on the sidelights and bingo, 14.6V, guaranteed.

There is also an upgrade available from RAC Trackstar which cuts the sleep mode from 6 to 1 hour delay, and turns down the movement sensor.

A better battery helps too. 60A instead of the OE 53A.

 

My 97 classic drained the battery when I was in hospital for two weeks, and hubby was too busy to start her over for me.
I had to remove my battery and charge it for seven hours. Battery fine now.

knackered battery mate.If it needed all this attention then every long stay car park and car dealer forecort in the country would be strewn with non starting cars.The Tracker has its own standby battery which could also be faulty and causing a drain from your main battery.

As Corradoboy said isnt this a know issue with current shape STi's? I thought this had come up a few times now.

instead of trying to trace the problem, you could just tackel the symptom...

or similar is what alot of other people do.
It comes with a quick, waterproof connection, which I have run to the outside of the front grill.
Only take a couple of seconds to connect, works a treat, and you can leave it for months without driving.
