Default Jap import clasic sti?

Hi all,I am looking at a classic import sti,i would prefer one of the latest ones but i have read that there is no model reports betwen 1997 and the new age so i guess it will have to be a version 3 etc. What is the main things i need to know before going out and buying one?I could buy a new age sti but im really not that keen on them(unless you persuade me otherwise).Am i better off with an import classic sti or would finding a mint P1 be the better option? Also can you recommend any good specialist importers?
thanks for the help guys

The MY97 Sept 96-August 97 STI 3 was the start of the stronger, higher revving engines. 4 door version = 4.5 0-60, 2 door R/RA = 4.3 0-60. The P1's look nice, but are not as quick, depends what you're looking for.

If you do go down the version 3 route, PM me, as I have one and can give you some pointers as to what to look for, to ensure you get a genuine one.
