Smile P1 Rear Drive Shafts

Have replaced a faulty R160 4.444 rear diff with one out of a P1, My pre 96 shafts didnt fit so had to source some other ones. The shafts I got were identical ie not handed as were the pre 96 shafts. I have a slight noise from the rear when I lift off from high revs which appears to come from the diff area. I want to know are the P1 shafts identical as when I look inside the outer diff bearing the spline appears to be longer, both shafts have about 5mm before the circlip.

Thanks

P1 rear diffs are 4.10 ratio AFIK. so unless you swapped the internals you will be running with different diff ratio's front and back !!

I checked the markings on the crownwheel before fitting 40/9 =4.444 !!!
I have had loads of problems finding the spec on these diffs, I understood they all had 4.444 diffs, Thanks for the reply , back to the drawing board I think

Afraid to say it wasn't a genuine P1 rear diff. It will have been taken out of an Import STI or WRX

P1 does indeed have a 4.44 rear diff, it's exactly eh same as the Jap STI5, except that 5th gear has been changed from 0.825to 0.738:1 to give it the longer legs.

You should have different shafts too, as the Suretrac LSD of the P1 rear diff doesn't have the stub shafts like the viscous diff you removed will.

I am not sure on the exact nature of the shafts though.

It certainly is a P1 rear diff!! as we still have the remains of the car that it and the driveshafts came out of.
