Im having an odd noise when the car is cold, but when its warmed up its almost gone away, what are the symptoms for a failing bottom end?, or can anyone give advice on what to check for, ive done a search etc, but cant find what I need to know, Ive checked the oil and there is no metalic substances in it.

As this is a new car, and I dont know anything about them im paranoid.

The car is a 96 WRX import.

sound going away when warm usually points towards piston slap.

 

it doesnt go completely away, but its almost not there, is piston slap normal for this engine, or something to worry about?

 

Just to add to the above, the noise is there only between 1000-2000rpm if i rev the car.

sounds like piston slap to me (without hearing it ovb!)

 

been out and unplugged all the coil packs one by one, didnt seem to make a difference, I thought it was the last one which is closest to the passenger side, but when I plugged it back in, the engine was hot and didnt make any sound at all.
