Does any body have two sets of locking wheel nuts on their scooby?

I know you can still get them off but it will take a little longer and effert.

is it safe to run with 2 sets of locking wheel nuts?

Ray,

Locking nuts don't usually have as much thread as the standard nuts. You need at least 9 turns with the fine pitch thread on Scoobies. Just go for one set of good quality ones such as McGard.

Iv just bought some mcgard locking wheel nut and iv compared the depth of the thread of the normal ones and the mcgards have 5mm less thread.

 

But how many full turns are you getting?

I paranoid enough to use 2 sets of McGards on my summer wheels and a single set of 'tuner' McGards on my winter wheels

 

Used 2 sets on mine for more than a year with no issues....if one nut comes off there are still four others holding the wheel on anyway, where's the problem?

What torque setting for the nuts on 17" MY00?

 

65ftlb will do nicely

An article in a copy of True grip recommends 90ft/lbs. Why such a difference?

no idea............what exactly were they recomended for??
that's a stupidly high torque figure (90ft/lb) and could well result in stud/thread problems...................apart from the puncture nightmare when you can't get the wheel off stuck at the side of the road...............

we use 65ft/lb on all alloys and in over 12yrs of mainly m/sport & high mileage road cars have never had any issues..............

I bought a second set of nuts for a classic that had thicker disc bells for precisely the reason that they had MORE thread on them, as there was less of the studs protruding through the bell face. The standard nuts have thread that stops a way short of the inner edge of the nut, whereas both sets of locking nuts had 1-2mm more thread closer to the inner edge and were made of harder stuff too.

Both sets were Subaru supplied.

 

Ive had two sets on for 4 years now, 1 subaru, 1 halfords and never thought about thread size etc but they have never come slack once.What happens if they are too tight,do the rims not sit on the hub as good? or thet might just strip the nuts!
