Default Which ECU would you use?

I've just won an engine on ebay, it's a MY96 WRX, possibly an RA.
I'll be fitting this into another car and the engine may not come with the loom/ECU.
Would I be better off with an ECU from another (UK?) car to cope better with our fuel?
Would the vehicle harness and engine harness mate together OK? Other years?
I don't really want the expense of an aftermarket ECU with the rolling road tuning expense...

Cheers, Rich

UK ECU will be fine...something like a 7D, V7 or 6D.
If you are going for a WRX ECU then I would suggest a Z4, Z5.

I think the ECU for a 96 RA is a Z5 and the STi RA 7K

All should work. The only ECU that may give boost issues is an SB from a STi RA from around 1994.

Are there any issues with wiring or is it as simple as swapping them over? Are there years which won't be compatible or am I safe up to MY96?

Cheers, Rich

The only ones that may give issues such as going into limp home mode and boost control, are those from WRX Wagons due to the diferent turbo and boost control.

I think these are 1C, V5 and V9
