Exclamation Oil Filter - Quite suprised with the Price

Couple of weeks ago i saw a post here for price's on Oil filters..

Called up a Subaru dealer today (Wilson's) and i was actually quite suprised at the cost £4.50+VAT

Just thought i would share that to anyone condsidering using Halfords version of the oil filter, which actually costs little bit more!

Mobil 15/50 fully synthetic Oil - I have been told Costco have for £25..though i am not a member there so will be poping into Halfords for that, think cost £45 for a 4L and a 1L bottle

The filter is one of the service and spares items that Subaru reduced in price about a year ago. When you consider that it used to cost over 11 quid it shows what a complete rip-off it all is! No way would I leave one of those tiny things on for 10k miles!

I posted £12 for filter and washer, and was told I have been robbed. So I rang Subaru Mansfield the next day and asked for a price and if they were in stock. Shock horror yes in stock and £12 Sir. So whats happening here then different garage different price, yet still genuine Subaru Dealer part.

Just checked my invoice for the 40k service the other week - £4.50+VAT from Cotswold Subaru at Hailey, Oxon.

I know what I'd do if a dealer was trying to rip me off - drive away and tell them why.

I don't believe that Mobil 1 15/50 is crappy! Use it in my sti 4 which has been dynoed at 293bhp standard. Might be a bit to thick for this time of year though. I'm sure someone will come along. Do a search on General technical.

I was thinking of Motul 300v from ASperformance...6L for £40 + next day delivery, where as Halfords do 5L for i think £45...

Aslo they sell the original Subaru Oil filter + the washer thing for £5.50...saves me a trip to Halfords and to a Subaru Dealer..

Just a note about Costco and Mobil.... yes it's that price but my local Costco only do the oW/40 not the 15W/50. Was a thread about this some time ago. Sam where did you get that info from, maybe they have started stocking it.

I would be happy to put (and have done) either Mobil 15W/50 or Castrol 10W/60 in the car (you'll need 5L... engine takes about 4.5L). Also could try Silkolene Pro S 10W/50, or Motul 15W/50. See Simon (oilman for some pretty good prices on Silkolene).

Tony.
