As long as you don't do it whilst going round a corner......

Mind you, you should be changing down before a corner, anyway

This is a good example of how a friendly word in the ear of the motorist would have saved the taxpayer a lot of money and the police a lot of face. The sad thing is they are right to say that you should not be holding anything whilst driving; you need two empty hands to deal with the controls properly. They should have had a quiet word and let her on her way..... End of story

However, thanks to going to ridiculously disportionate lengths to prosecute this lady, their position has been undermined and the public has been further alientated, making the job for decent bobbies out there so much harder in the process!

Best.

The police said they thought she was on her mobile phone. We've all been behind someone who's poor lane discipline, lack of correct indication and general low driving standard has led us to think that they must be on the phone.

We don't know the full facts here without video evidence, she could have been "all over the road", then she may have given them a load of lip when she was pulled.

Methinks you've hit the nail on the head. The fact they did her for it, and that she took it all the way through the legal system, would seem to imply she was a) lippy b) trying it on!

Still utterly disgusting to spend that amount to "get their own back" then, isn't it?

And what about all those smokers out there?

And how can you take your eyes off the road long enough to use a sat nav?
