Default CEL Flashing and loud bangs from exhaust

Lets start at the very beginning:-

Car is a MY01 WRX running 350bhp

The car is running fine until it is given some 'welly'.

When changing throught the gears at anything over 0.5bar, when the clutch is depressed, the CEL flashes (only for a split second) and there is a loud 'pop' from the exhaust.

Any ideas what the problem could be and where to start looking for the problem.

Car was serviced 4 days ago and had new plugs fitted.

Any help would be appreciated.

The ECU could be interpretting the loud pop as severe det or similar and warning you about it?

As a general thought for problems when changing up on boost - could be dump valve not dumping or similar - do you know if it's gummed up?

Thanks for the reply guys,

Since yesterday the problem has got a lot worse. This morning travelling to work at only 10mph the engine started to misfire and cut out. The engine would restrart but run very badly until it cut out again.
Called the AA and during his inspection (didn't touch anything) the car started running again. Drove to the nearest dealer who are currently looking at it. It did cut-out several times on the 2 mile journey to the dealer.
The SECS Unit came up with P0032 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit High) could that be linked with the problem?
First time in 52K miles the scoob has let me down. Gutted !!!!!!!!!
