Default Does This Sound Right???

Got my car going into my local dealer on the 19th Jan as the clutch keeps slipping @ 3K rpm.

Spoke to the guy @ the dealership and explained what was happening. He started to explain that is sounds like the clutch might be worn and may need replacing, which shocked me as the car has only done 17K.

He then went on to explain that that the Clutch is not really covered by my warranty The car is an STI registered in April 03 and stood idle for 3.5 months as I broke my ankle. I don't drive that hard to burn a clutch in 17K.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Tough call, you should be able to argue that the clutch shouldn't be letting go at 17k, but then how's the dealer supposed to know that you haven't been doing loads of 6k rpm launches.

Best to put you case forward in a sensible manner and then hopefully the dealership will be sympathetic and persue a warranty claim for you. If you have been driving it sensibly the yes it shouldn't be slipping. May just need adjustment or perhaps something is sticking after it was layed up for 3.5 months.

Good luck

I think the clutch drive plate is EXCLUDED from warranty. Scoobies do go through clutches even if you do not drive hard (all that grip from 4wd). Thats probably why they do not warranty them. The clutch housing etc IS covered.

Must admit the guy I spoke to @ Milton Keynes Subaru sounded like a reasonable guy. Lets hope he's sympathetic too.

What is the cost of a new Clutch?
