Question Misting up ?????

For about a week or so now the car has been misting up within half an hour of parking. Takes a couple of mins with aircon & rear screen heater to clear everything up. I've had a feel around the carpets and can't find any damp (unlike my old VW that I can grow cress in the footwell).

Any ideas ? Heater matrix ? Aircon fault ? Leaking seal ?

Cheers in advance, David.

Could be a very slight weep on one of the heater matrix pipes, didn't mean the last reply as an insult, but you know how some people are......

I'm on my second new age impreza and both of them misted severely. Like you I could find no damp patches (at least none that couldn't be accounted for )

Try not using the aircon. Keep a clean cloth in the car to wipe the screen and windows over.

I've had the same problem on both scoobs i've owned. It must be a japanese vehicle problem. My GF has a Nissan Micra and gets it. My mate drives a CTR and also has the misting up.

Had a vectra cdx before my scoob and that was a death trap, when it was damp outside or had more than one person in it, it would be fine one second then whoosh, the whole car would mist up. I would have to pull over and wait five minutes for it to clear, drive a mile or so then it would go again. Vauxhalls had it in a few times but couldn't cure it. Haven't had it with the Impreza yet

Never had the problem on a scoob, especially the new one but have on my Peugeot, that turned out to be the heater matrix (but it misted up all the time )

Do you have a pollen filter fitted? If you do either change it or throw it away. If its blocked it will not let the air flow freely and cause windows to mist up. This is for any car not just scoobs.

Never had a problem at all with mine - MY02. Use the aircon, auto settings on the fan, then one of the two demist settings on the distribution control....

I suspect that Dave (Corradoboy) has a problem with his matrix....

OK, just had the engine running to hot (so water under pressure) and then shut it off, and so far no misting. I would have thought that if it was the matrix then it would now be misting. Makes me wonder if water is getting in through a seal somewhere ?

On the downside, I found one of my (detango'd ) headlights misted up but on further inspection I found the access cap for the sidelight had come loose, phew ! 10 minutes on full beam seems to have dried it out.

Exactly as turbotits says - for any car. Misting will occur when there is no fresh air coming into the car. Look at many older cars driving and you'll see misting - 9 out of 10 times, it's because the fan is off. When you park, the car retains heat. This will then dissipate through the usual vents etc that are in the car and air will also come in. Misting occurs when there is no flow between the inside and outside of the car - often this is because pollen filter is blocked, or leaves (espicially at this time of year) are covering vents. Main place is to lift the bonnet and clear all the leaves - other places are in the boot (make sure the vents in there are not blocked by luagge or other stuff in the boot). It all makes a difference...

Also try cleaning the inside of your windscreen.
My old car used to start doing this if a front seat passenger ate chips. Coated the windscreen in grease which just loved to steam up at the slightest provocation.

Sorry, couldn't resist - is this anything to do with footprints on the inside of the windscreen?

Seriously, mine does it too if I've had the aircon on to demist the car in general and then turn it off - it seems to allow moist air back into the cabin which mists the windows up again I thought I'd heard it was from the condensor / drain not clearing all the moisture etc out of the system - there's always some residual at this time of year.

It seems as though if you've once had the aircon on for part of a journey, you've got to keep it on for the rest or else it'll mist up again...

Mine does exactly the same. Looked for moisture, cant find any.

If it was the matrix, you would be able to smell the antifreeze (you cant miss that smell, smells 'fishy' ) (Just had the GT4's fail last week)

Not misty when its sat, just when I get in, maybe water collects somewhere in the heater air intake ?
