Quick Q: Does anyone know the difference between:

a) Side Moulding Kit, p/n J1010SE010, and
b) Side Protector Mouldings STi, p/n SACC1229?

Both are plastic strips that fit along the sides of the current Impreza, but although the STI ones are a bit cheaper, there's no picture on Subaru's web site to show how they're different.

Any ideas?

 

I wouldnt bother unless you like the look. The doors still get dinged because peoples doors are not constructed to neatly meet you bump strip. If you have to get the doors resprayed due to damage then you need to buy a new set of strips to stick on again as the lacquer on the door needs to be faded in across the door, so costs even more. I talk from experience.

In answer to your question i think you will find that one type has Impreza written on it and one type has STi.

 

They are also different in profile, and yes, they are worth having!!! ANYTHING that helps stop the "I don't give a sh**" brigade from dinging your door is worth having? I got a set before taking delivery of my STi so I could get them on quick! I also sprayed them the body colour. You need to remove the "Subaru technica international" sticker on the door before fitting. (hair dryer or heat gun on the sticker then just peel off)
They are mounted a bit low but still give some protection (luckily the right height to fend off the wifes Primera door! although she is very careful as she knows one dent = a beating, two dents = divorce)

I thought about fitting a long, thin strip of coarse sandpaper along each one - which might at least mean that anyone who slams their own door into it will actually come off worse

 

it was the best £45 i spent on my MY97 classic.. made it a lot better in Tesco car parks when you open your door on to walls/other cars

IMO they look good too
