Interval of cambelt on a classic
Had mine done at 44583 miles in 2001. Dealer now saying that it will need doing again soon. Fine, but the car has only done 59145 miles. Will the belt degrade so badly over time that it will need changing at 20k as they say?

Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on this. My understanding is that the interval was at 45K for all classics upto something like MY00. Thereafter it was changed to 60K which may be why you've been told its got to be done again. My car is MY00 and was done at 45K but I have been told by another dealer it should have been 60K.
I'm on 55K now so not sure myself if I should have it done at 60K or leave it until 90K.

It should be changed every 45k OR every 60k (depending on who you talk to) not at both 45k AND 60k.
Not sure if belts degrade over time, but if it was me then I'd stick to the service schedule. So if you had it done at the 45k service then do it again at the 90k service, even if the actual mileage is a lot less.
Dave.
