Question Centre pipe...

What difference - back pressure, Exhaust gas temp, loss of power /torque / response should I expect, when changing from a 2.5" straight thru centre pipe to a 2.5" resonated centre pipe ... the resonator is a perforated pipe type into a very small silencer box, but this is around the pipe not a staggered in and out system.

Should I see more back pressure, slower spool up, less aggresive pick up / boost, ???

Thanks

i think you will have a slight decrease in power since the holes in the pipe will create a slight drag effect to the exhauxt gas

Default Run straight thru to the back box.

Ive got a 3" straight de-CAT downpipe and centre section with no resonator box onto a 2" pipe on the rear box section and a cheap OMP Group N Rally back box, perfect note and happily cruises at 75 with no drone. This transformed the engine respone and turbo spool up after changing from the standard system.

Cheers guys!!

My change in feel felt more like 50 bhp/lbft loss than 2 - 5 .... the spool up/go was fierce on the straight thru pipe, so much so that there was no time to grab the next gear in 1,2, a bit in 3rd .... now it is much more mellow and seemed slower...

May just be a placebo as it is quieter ..?

I tried a STi back box which also made it feel more sluggish.. ( on other centre pipe )

The reason for the change was to remove the motorbike bark on even slight load/throttle after fitting OBX headers, as it was too attention grabbing / chav like!!

Wound up the boost a little more again ( had knocked it down when it went in for a clutch! ) back to 18 psi and it feels faster and smooth ...

We'll see how she goes at Well lane in a week or so! After a Power FC and Andy F map.

I`m running an 02 spec c centre on my 95 wagon.
It has 2 resonators...I wonder what effect that has on power?
Its not going to be replaced as its boomy in the wagon without it.
Just a thought.
