Quickshift!

Don't you think the throw is short enough already.

I fitted a quickshift to my classic and that made a big difference but the throw is that short on the six speed I can't see it making a difference.

Anyhow, I had the centre console off at the weekend. Open the glove box lid, look at the bottom of compartment and see two screws. Undo these. Then it will allow you to lift it, work it about as there is a break in the console by the handbrake just before the gearstick (centre console is three pieces). From memory it should come free. Then undo button around gearstick to release the gaitor. You can then lift this section off so you can see the gearstick exposed. Do not undo the allen key bolts for the aluminium surround as you don't need to and secondly the nuts underneath will fall off and you could lose them.

The gearstick has some sort of connection for the reverse mechanism. On my classic though to release the gearstick I think I took some kind of surround to expose the the end which is in a socket. It was then a case of pull the gearstick back into fourth and keep pulling at it and the thing should pop out.

You can then gently tap in the new gearstick (use a wood block over top of gearstick and give it a good tap with a hammer) and re-assemble all of above. Not sure on reverse machanism but I am sure once you see it all exposed you will be able to figure it out.

HTH.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts on the 'before' and 'after' for this.

Damian.

there not bad to fit ...(on a ramp ) ....it`s gonna be awkward to do on ur drive though ....takes 1/2 hour in a garage .......i`ve fitted a few ...with the STi , you will have to drop the gearbox mounts down so you can get the linkage bolt out ..(which only comes out upwards where there is no room ).
the old shifter & brace bar comes out from the the inside of the car , so the short shifter goes back in through the top (inside car) .

2 x 12mm bolts holding rubber mount 2 brace bar
1 x 12mm nut & bolt through linkage
then reverse engage linkage , pin, clip

i have fitted 1 b4 without taking gearbox down but i was just trying to prove a point & i DID struggle.

your only dropping gearbox 3-4 inches by the way , just to give you clearance for the removal of the stupid bolt through the main linkage.
HTH

scott

PS...where are you located ?
