Which replacement clutch for STI 3
I reckon my clutch is on borrowed time now as it is smelling more and more. And it's done 77k now - a good innings?
I'm looking for a replacement clutch that's cheap and suitable for road use. What shall I go for and who should fit it (preferable based in or near Thames Valley)?

We supply and fit the Exedy organic, which is the basis of the AP racing organic. Exedy make ALL clutches in Japan and AP buy from them and then ' create their own' from the parts.
An Exedy set is all 3 parts whereas the AP doesn't include the release bearing.
Cost of the clutch from us is £300 plus VAT and we charge £200 plus VAT to fit it. It is possible to buy a cheaper clutch some as cheap as £95.00 but look out for judder.
We are close to Junc 12 of the M40 which is sort of Thames Valley [ you can buy the Thames Valley Auto Trader in the local newsagent ! ]
OR we can mail you a clutch overnight and you can get it fitted nearer to you.
Let me know if we can help

Is it likely that the flywheel will need replacing/skimming?
Also, how do I spot when my existing clutch is into its last 1000 miles? It doesn't slip yet, judders when cold like it has done since 20k and just smells when in heavy traffic and reversing up my steep drive.

If anyone knew how to tell a clutch 1000 miles from failing they'd be a millionaires. No answer to your question really. Sorry.

Just like to add that the Exedy clutch from API is a nice one to use. Got one fitted to my 22b and running around 320ft/lb of torque through it
Its easy in traffic (not on off like some) but when your pushing it the action is nice and crisp.
Dave.
