Jan 1999 - 4 door. Now at the stupid price of £11,250 for one week only (If I don't sell it I am trading it in). If you ever fancied buying a car at what a dealer might pay - now is the time! One Owner. Full Service History from point of purchase (Lockyear Cars). Considerately driven by member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Unmodified. 8 months warranty remaining. A chance to buy an honest car at a great price.
Factory specification includes:
280 BHP. Climatic aircon, Thatcham alarm (fitted at new by dealer), CD-stereo, electric folding mirrors, rear wiper, height adjustable drivers seat, aluminium boot lid, electric arial.
The details:
First set of tyres at 30K (Goodyear F1). Full electronic four wheel tracking at about 28-9k. The clutch has never been changed and does not judder and wear has not been pointed out at any service. The brake pads have never been replaced. The car was serviced at 37500 (now 42,000) and the pads were specifically checked. The car has been serviced 'on the nose' every 7500 miles by Lockyear Garage; they will give an independent view of the car (they consider it to be a good one because I ran it in carefully- no turbo whistle, fast and smooth). All service bills are available for inspection indicating that apart from planned maintainance there has been precious little for them to do (they changed a side light bulb at the last service).
Always run on SUL petrol (stories about long term damage to STI's using UL and noticeable improvement in smoothness encouraged this practice). I have most of the petrol receipts to prove it! In my hands it averages 27-28 mpg but will manage 30mpg plus on a motorway journey.
The first 18 months of its life was spent commuting 19 miles each way from my house near Aylesbury to Hemel Hempstead company car park plus trips to Gainsborough (motorway). One trip to Belgium and Burgundy.
Since then commuting to Bourne End (60 mile round trip) across country simply following the car ahead (no chance to overtake even in this car)
Reason for selling? (please don't laugh). I am changing to an Audi A2 TDI for commuting and (in the future) will get something like a caterham for weekends.
You won't find a better car for the money!

If it helps your sale this model might have a VF22 turbo fitted (worth checking), hence the good economy in your hands. By that I mean that the VF22 is the BIG turbo and in unmodded form doesn't come in until 4000rpm (then it's a bit light an on/off switch). You can actually cruise at 120mph and not be on positive boost.
People out there should take note that this turbo is quite sought after.

That's a very good price. Should I ever sell mine I hope to get more for it.

I also have a 99 wrx, it has the vf22 turbo fitted, when standard, boost would start to build at about 3200rpm and peak at 4000rpm, you can tell as acceleration over 110mph in 5th is superb compared to 80mph in 5th.Would have asked for more for it m8, not many wrx's with the big blower around!

I don't think it's the turbo you describe. Boost comes in fully at about 3200 rpm. I think the good fuel consumption is due to the fact that the car was run in carefully and has a driver that anticipates hazards early and lifts off - still on original brake pads.

I already have enquiries so I don't think it will be around in mid-May. If you want it you better get your skates on!

If you lean into the engine bay from the front of the car and look down the front of the turbo there should be a small flat area with some writing on it. Look for something like:
Turbo Spec: VF22 9806
Parts Number: 14411AA221

The VFxx is the important bit.
And to confirm what cpfowales said - this blower isn't common and it is desirable.

I don't want to contradict you but you use lots of fuel when on boost. From your description of your driving you aren't on boost very often hence the good ecomony. UK cars have a smaller turbo (typically TD04) and the STI's have a VF24 or later a VF29 (22B's have a VF23) all of which are smaller. A smaller turbo spins up earlier and so you are on boost (using lots of fuel) more often.

For those interested in the VF22 but put off by the lag I can say that with suitable mods it's possible to get 19psi @ 3500rpm with the VF22 In standard form 14psi @ 4000rpm is the norm.

I have checked, and my car does have a VF22 turbo. Thanks to you all for pointing out that my car is even more desirable than I thought.

Just out of curiosity how do you increase the turbo pressure and what sort of power improvements result?

Martin,

I have a 2001 A2 Se in Silver with Open Sky system (glass roof)upgraded Hi Fi 8 speaker system, Audi boot mounted CD player, Aluminium Trim pack, winter pack, satelite cloth trim etc which has done less than 1K miles. It was bought in the UK from an Audi dealer after a wait of 8 months. I now have a company car so the A2 will have to go, so if you are interested in this car drop me a line.

Cheers

Dave

In response to the boost question.
I altered my boost (and a few other things) by installing and programming a Link ECU. I have not had my car dyno'd (@ PE) since I fitted my Link so I don't know how the figures compare to before. If you want to look at how basic exhaust mods might affect this car then see:

Now at a totally bonkers price! See amended first posting. If you are even vaguely thinking about buying a WRX - now is the time to act - fast.
