Hello, please help. i have a scooby wrx sti type R. When driving over 4000 revs the engine makes a really loud grinding/rattling noise. Does anyone know what this is?
Also when gently accelerating the car hits like a dead spot in the accelerationg and struggles to put the power down until i give it a bit more throttle.
does anyone know what the problem may be. Please help

could be a lot of different things.

over 4000 revs noise could be a loose heat shield.

the dead spot is probably soemthing else entirely, might even be a dirty throttle housing making the butterfly stick.

 

Id say gearbox or drive shafts mate. Maybe a bearing or something.

 

when i decelerate from high revs down through 4100 rpm i get a sort of resonance noise from the engine. it's there all the time, but most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd. Car is a sti7 - no mods 13k miles
