I read somewhere that there were changes to the MY03 6 speed gearboxes to sort out problems on the MY01/02 STi's (JDM), like lighter, harder materials used and changes to the syncro's (stronger).
Can anyone confirm this?

When Subaru changes even the materials from a part changes at least the last two-three digits of the part number so it's obvious the gearbox is still the same.
Although have heard from local Subaru service that some new synchros are on the way (5th) to cure previous problems, not sure though.
Only the 5 speed WRX gearboxes have major changes.
