first mod...
Being advised to install decatted front pipe on MY98 turbo
any thoughts on performance improvements, risks to engine, MOT failure etc?
or should I be doing something completely different?
thanks in advance

Loose the peashooters mate
They completely mute the Impreza's wonderful flat four throb! That'll get you smiling, will turn heads and is relatively inexpensive. I can recommend the H&S backbox; nice deep burble, but not too loud!
I'd consult the experts before getting anything more substantial done to the car, for the sake of your wallet if nothing else!
Best,

Thanks all, does a replacement backbox actually do anything to the performance, or is it just the sound?
Its an expert advising me to do the downpipe. He's just saved me 200 notes by offering to sort out my brakes (as opposed to a main stealer), which I was already psychologically (sp?) prepared to spend, so I guessed I might spend it any way, on something more fun than brakes.
So, for 200 notes (well £250 apparently....) is the decatted downpipe a 'sensible' first mod?

A decent backbox will result in a marginal improvement in performance; we're probably only talking a few Bhp and Nm here, I noticed that the acceleration seemed a little crisper on mine and the turbo seemed to spool up more freely (could be my imagination, though) Either way, it really does make give the car its voice back, and a decent sound is important in a performance car; the scooby has one of the best and most charismatic.
I've heard mixed reports about de-catting a car without a remap. I'd ask around a get a few opinions from people who know what they're talking about first: e.g. Xtreme Scoobies, TSL, RCM, BRD etc....etc....
Trust me on the backbox though! :-)
