Question

Hello guys & girls

My P1's due back from the dealer soon now after having its offside rear suspension replaced - encounter with mud and curb - so it'll be time for me to re-advertise it.

Any P1 or ex-P1 owners (or anyone else) got ideas for a reasonable asking price? Anyone sold one, and where did you advertise? I'm thinking of EVO mag.

Car is standard, W(May)2000, 6000 miles. Only thing I've fitted so far is a set of headlamp protectors and a Sony Cd player (MX-7).

I've seen a few Wanted ads for P1's

Some Subaru dealers are supposedly selling brand new P1's for <£29k. Prodrive are also still running full page ads in several magazines, so there are still plenty of the otiginal 1000 left unsold. I would guess at £25-26k privately and I doubt a dealer would give more than £23-24k for a trade in.

A good way to find out if people are getting the highish prices they are asking in magazines is to call them. If the cars are still for sale then they are asking too much or there is no demand. If they are sold then you can politely ask what they were sold for. This will give you an idea of the real value.

Personally, I'd love one (even with the minor niggles some people have reported), but I cannot justify paying that ammount of money for a second hand car.

I find the problem with the wanted ads on the Findit site are the fact the purchasers don't want to pay the going rate.

I often see an add with wanted on it and just 2-3 ads before is the exact car they want - only at a realistic price!!

If you dont mind me asking, why are you selling ??

With regards orville's comments to there being plenty of new cars around, I dont think there are many brand new unregistered ones around. They are mainly ex-demo cars. I have just spent the last two months trying to source a brand new unregistered car of which there was one, which I bought.

Question

I was thinking of putting it in for around £26495 and negotiating from there. Wouldn't mind p/exing for a pre 96 M5.

Prodrive wouldn't waste money advertising new cars if they were all sold (sse yesterdays Autocar). My local dealer (Wilsons in Romford) said they could source a new P1 2 weeks ago and that they could do a good deal on price or trade-in. Try calling Prodrive direct and they will tell you where to get one,

My P1 sold for £26750 with 5000 miles,
Alcon Brakes, P1 Exhaust and £1200 worth of CD and stereo. Some offers were around 22k. Most dealers were not even interested.

If you can hold on untill all the P1's are sold and second hand cars are there only source of metal.

Orville,

That may be right, but you cant walk into your dealer and order a new car. I phoned Listers this afternoon and enquired about ordering a brand new P1 and was informed that the P1 had finished production and that any new ones that are available will be cancelled orders. Maybe the advert was placed in an attempt to get rid of the 27 ex-demo cars that are sitting in showrooms.

Paulmon - re why I'm selling...

Buying a new house, that's why, drat drat drat drat. It kills me to do it, particularly because I think that values are going to start firming up in a month or two, and eventually I'm sure the P1 will be the Scoob to have. It's by far the best car I've ever had. Unfortunately, the 20000 poonds tied up in the car is just too much.

Paul, didn't you try Robinsons? They had one in the showroom for weeks. Not been down since the break so don't know if it's still there. Also Fenny had an X reg with 15 miles but I suppose that's second hand.

As I recall in December there were supposed to be around a hundred in the network, so the advertising & discounts certainly worked

Of course the fact that dealers get a £1500 incentive if they register a P1 and keep it for two months before selling may have something to do with the number of ex-demos about......

Paul

Yes, know what you mean, pose, pose, POSE

Despite all the negatives I would love one myself but can't justify the "cost to change".
Just that in my opinion IM's spin on the P1 makes Tony Blaire look like an amateur, and of course as Listers may prefer to move a brace of heavily tracked P1s.

I'll look out for a Y reg P1.

KT Green at Pool Bank, Leeds have at least two P1's in stock, one looks like a demo, the other a brand spanker in the (flash new) showroom.
