Default liverpool and victoria - be careful

having been told by L&V that they would insure my WRX (MY01), with PPP and Prodrive 330mm brake upgrade, and having received a competitive quote I wrote to them asking them to confirm it in writing.

I had also been told as long as the size of the engine did not increase then they covered all modifications - this seemed too good to be true!!

I received a letter back saying "our underwriters would not be able to offer insurance cover because of the modifications to the vehicle"

I suggest all you people out there with modified cars and insured with L&V check very carefully that your cover actually exists.

I shall be writing to the Chief Executive of L&V asking him what in the hell they are playing at telling prospective customers one thing and then going back on it as soon as they are asked to put it in writing.

I would be interested to hear of any similar issues with L&V.

May I ask how old you are? May be relevant.

I am over fifty with a clean record and maximum no claims.

So I cannot see that my age is relevant to the matter - it is more a case that the people who quote on the phone, for L&V, do not know what the company's policy actually is on modified cars.

I will go elsewhere (Subaru Insured) where they understand what the modifications are and will cover them 'in writing'.

But there may be people out there with modified cars who think they are insured, with L&V, but come claim time may be in for a nasty shock.

Fair enough, just wondered whether you were under 30 that's all.

I've heard of people having trouble getting it in writing that the car with any mods (apart from their exclusions) is covered. People on the phone say just take photos and keep receipts, but they don't seem willing to put it in writing.

I'm with them anyway, and only have minor mods to my car (non-Scoob) which I have already mentioned on the phone anyway, so hopefully I won't have too much to worry about

Be interested to know the response though from the Chief Exec.

Some info on this very topic over here (but with no resolution )
