Talking Whats the best route to more power?

I have a 2001 WRX, I have already played with the suspension and ARB's, and also changed the exhaust and removed the centre CAT. But I would like to have more power. I was thinking of getting a remap but that would take it to around the 240bhp mark. I ahve read about the changing of the TDO4 turbo to a TD05. I wasn also thinkign of changing the uppipe. But i do want to retain 1 cat at least.
Any idea's please

A good TEK3 remap should take you well beyond 240bhp, closer to 270bhp I would have thought, pretty much to the limit of the original turbo. Have a look at the dyno graphs on scoobynet, those with induction kits/good panel filters and de-cat exhaust systems push out circa 240bhp. Removing the downpipe cat will release more power, but as you want to retain a cat you could look at fitting a sports cat (although they are well expensive!).

Is the centre cat less restrictive than the downpipe cat? I don't know, but if it is and I were you I'd refit the centre cat and de-cat the downpipe if you definitely want to retain one. (But only if it is less restrictive.)

Main cat ( and most restrictive ) is the downpipe cat, although do the 2001's have a cat in the uppipe too?? Swapping out the downpipe provides best benefits though.

Get a custom EcuTEK map when you have done the main mods for best / safe results.

A better flowing but not much larger diameter up-pipe may help, along with STi panel filter, and supporting mods like Walbro fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. Silicone hoses for induction help a little too. Best bet is to bet all the cold air you can to the airbox.

On Classics, the TD04 turbo can do 280 bhp / 260 lb ft, upto 300 bhp in some cases if all is sorted. For 300 plus you need a larger turbo. TD05 is popular and good, but a bit more laggy, good for 350 bhp. Others are ok, although not tried them myself so can't advise. If you have money to spend and wish to go towards 400 bhp a hybrid TD05/06 20G turbo is less laggy and provides more power at lower boost than a TD05 ... see Scoobyshop and Andy F turbos.

Swapping your top mount intercooler for an STi 8 or similar one, if it will fit, is said to be a good thing to cool the charge more, and DIY intercooler watersprays may help in traffic or on hard runs.

A few things there, no doubt others more knowledgable than I will come along.

Ask the specialist suppliers, Knowlesy at Xtremescoobies is very helpful, as is Alyn at AS Performance, see what they reccommend.

I have just been on the dyno at G-Force Motorsport only yesterday, my car is the MY03 WRX, uprated fuel pump, decat uppipe to turbo, sportscat downpipe, decat centre, back box, EcuTek remap, i assume Tek3 by Richard Bulmar at TSL, green panel filter, blah, blah, and my car returns 266 bhp, with 260 ib/ft.
To say i am disappointed is a slight understatement! LOL
But that gives you an idea what you may get or better with your car.
I have edited this post to say, i am well impressed with the remap though, my car pulls like f00k upto the redline, and sure feels rapid, but like most ppl on here, i really thought i would get more bhp and torque tbh, i was expecting 280 really. (yes, i am very greedy!)
Another edit to say, respect to G-Force, very helpful, and incredibly knowledged chaps that they are.
Now i want over 300! lol.
