Default Should snick into 5th worry me?

Don't know if this is a common problem or not but nearly every time I select 5th gear it snicks. Not bad enought that it won't engage but starting to cause me concern.

The only time it doesn't do it is when you're just cruising (not very often then) and you select it at about 30ish but anything above that and it does.

It's an sti version 5 box with DCCD if that makes any difference.

So, should I start saving my pennies for a rebuild or do they all do it??

Cheers

MY00 started to do this last year at around 30k. It got worse (started to crunch then eventually refused to engage 5th) while i waited the 4 weeks for the dealers to book me in and sort.

I believe it was a loose retaining nut that caused the problem and common on MY99/00.

Dunno if this helps as you have an sti 5 being a different box etc.

Get it fixed before you have to hold the gearstick to keep it in 5th, it seems to be a common problem on phase two boxes (the retaining nut coming loose)

First symptoms are usually hard to select, then jumping out of 5th.

ANy good scoob garage should be able to carry out the fix with the box in situ (cheaper) it is just a case of removing the rear of the box and tightening/locking the 5th gear retaining nut.

Cheers
