Got 225/35 on my 18" wheels, (my01 import wrx) Got a puncture at a very inconvenient time and had to get a tyre urgently. The only one I could source was a 235/35. Am I likely to damage my gearbox etc? I do intend to change the front 2 as a pair very soon, bnt have had to do about 400 miles with it like this. Dont know if im getting paranoid now, but can hear some noises when going from on power to off power, and vice versa, sounds like play in the drive train. May have always been there, but not sure.
Any advice apreciated.

I am no expert but I would imagine that as long as the rolling radius of the tyres are the same then not much harm at all can happen. Seems you have different width tyres but the actual Profile/Rolling Radius (the 35 Bit) is the same. Should be okay but I would try to get the matched as soon as you can for handling and safteys sake.

ROB..There is a slight diffrence...35% of the 225 gives a side wall of= 78.7mm.
Where as....35% of 235,Gives a side wall height of 82.2mm..Giving you a diffrence of-3.5mm in radius...Although this is only marginal..Being on the same axle and not a pair..COULD give the diff a little strain....Always to keep in pairs where poss....Just a thought....Kev.

i've been told that the max. difference between front and rear can be 3.5 mm
Not sure if this rule aplies for left and right though.

Maybe an idea to put on the original wheels or borrow some wheels for the 400 mile untill you've got 4 equal tyres

 

Different height ( rolling radius ) tyres on same axle will strain / wear the diff if its a limmy slip diff, a normal open diff will be OK IIRC.

225/35 and 235/35 tyres are different heights / rolling radius to each other so is a problem.

Rob - why did you not use the space saver spare until you could get to Jim Jeffries or similar for right size tyre, it is such a funny size so it matches the rolling radius of the OEM tyres! Unless you changed wheels / tyres etc earlier, in which case it wouldn't help anyway.
