Just wondered if anyone else had come across this:

I have to replace the oil/filter on my my99 turbo. I bought a new filter from Subaru but when I went to change it there was a difference in sizes. The old one is about 20mm wider in diameter than the new one so I assumed I'd been given the wrong one.

My nearest subaru dealer is many miles away so I decided to go to Power Engineering in uxbridge- much nearer. But they handed me the exact same oil filter as I'd been given by Subaru (but they wanted £17 as opposed to £7 from Subaru, not impressed). They said that all the oil filters for imprezas were now that size and that it was the correct part.

Can anyone back that up? Anyone had a similar situation?

yes they changed it to the slim one.
