I'm thinking of chopping my xp 2000 with Asus a7v333; 9600 pro for a machine that'll run doom and HL2 but trying to keep the cost down. So far I'm thinking of getting;

Epox 8KDA3+ mobo - £99
Athlon64 3000 clawhammer - £111
Radeon x800 - £263

What do you guys reckon? I'm gonna use the 1 gig pc2700 RAM and the normal IDE drives for now and although the RAM will stifle it a little it should perform well, no?

 

Looks OK. I assume that's a retail chip? Otherwise you'll need a cooler. But what PSU have you got? If it's less than 400W you should budget for a possible upgrade.
