One of my friends is having problems with her sound card after downloading music from the net.

From what i can gather although she has sound on the internet and on games the computer is saying it can't find a sound card.

Does anyone have any ideas of what may have caused the problem? Will reinstalling the sound card software fix the problem?

Yeh - try re-installing the card. OR -

Check in the system to see if it recognises the card......

...if in doubt; rip it out. Remove the device in 'Device Manager' and restart the computer. This will cure the problem in 95 cases out of a hundred.
