Are wrx speedoes known to be inaccurate? I had a top speed run against my mate in his nitrous'd astra gsi on the M62. I was just touching 140mph on my speedo, he says he never got above 127 before we had to pull up.

Both cars were running side by side when we were at our 'max' speeds.

Who's speedo is wrong? Is his reading under, mine slightly over?

The wrx is a 51plate, 85k miles, standard engine.

Whilst in no way condoning racing or driving that fast on public roads, scoob speedos seem to pretty commonly read up to 10% fast (compared with a GPS readout, which will be pretty much spot on) so your indicated 140 would be about right if your mates speedo is bang on. A few people have noticed that their standard classics would show over 160 on the speedo....

I'm sure someone will be along to give you a roasting for your irresponsible driving in a minute.

Mine's a MY01 WRX too. Looks like speedo reads nearly 10% above real speed. Wonder if speedo says 80, am I really only doing 72? This is important to know. Or does speedo become by degrees less and less accurate the faster you go? Any other comments and real test data out there?
