will jap sti v11 ecu work in jap 93 wrx?

My mate has a 93 my wrx saloon and wants to know if a jap sti version 2 96 my ecu will work - can anyone help????
I thought the version 2 had the low comp engine compared to the high comp engine in the version 1 ????
