I have a completely standard 99MY UK 5dr and am contemplating shelling out on a PPP. Main driver for doing so is to (hopefully!) cure the irritating lumpiness some of these MY99-00 cars suffered from. Also nice to have a few more bhp and the possibility of slightly improved fuel efficiency - still feels like a lot of cash for the pay back though?!

Incidentally, I bought the car privately, so warranty isn't an issue, but durability/reliability is!

Any thoughts??!

This is my understanding of things but someone will know more.

I would get an ECUTEK remap as this will be specific to your car rather than the PPP which is off the shelf. I looked at PPP but went for the ECUTEK as part of a group buy (you may want to check to see if a GB is running now) from PE.

There is also the Power FC option which replaces the OE ECU altogether and can work out about the same £ if you buy the ECU from Jpn and get it mapped here by someone who knows the Power FC - not many in Pembs mate I know that much!!!!

You might want to do a few other things first like ditch the cats and replace the filter with an STI or K&N. With these fitted first the map won't need doing again later.

Who set up your ECUTEK? As you rightly point out, not many options in (windy ;-) Pembrokeshire!

Are you happy with the kit? I'm assuming it doesn't have any glitches such as the flat spots, poor idling, etc often associated with third party ECU meddling?

Its TEK 2 remap from Power Engineering. I never experienced any poor behaviour from my car prior to the mapping but after the map its raised the boost pressure to 16PSI from about 14 and altered the fueling to suit.

Its pretty good as a starting mod if you only have things like a filter and exhaust. I'm planning a few other mods (turbo, cooler, injectors etc) which will probably mean I'll be needing something like a Power FC or Link ECU.

 

Ed, why dont you come to some arrangement and swap your tek 2 ecu for Andy's standard and get the standard one replaced with a tek 3, you both got a good deal that way.

Andy would have to have similiar mods to yours and get it checked over at PE with det cans to make sure all is well but you could both save some £££££'s.

 

Would be a good idea but I haven't even started gathering all the right bits yet.

I'm looking for a stable and hopefully safe 300bhp and the same torque (gearbox allowing) so not sure how far I need to go with regard to turbo and coolers etc.

VF28 should be good for 300 as is an STi intercooler as I'm not sure I want to cut the bumper to bits fitting an FMIC. As for injectors MY00s have 440s which may OK for 300 but I don't know if I should get 550s. Pump and FPR are a must anyway and now rather than a couple of hundred quid to get it all mapped its now closer to 600 for change to the ECU.

Or I might just not bother and go on holiday instead!
