Angry Possible big end/piston gone

Got an STi V4 type RA, done 71000 miles and been in country 2 years, just got it two weeks ago, then overheated, oil pressure dropped then bad noise from engine. Car just serviced - all fluids changed. Anyone out there got any ideas??? or help please.

That sounds bad.
Can only suggest you contact a specialist for engines, ie www.apiengines.co.uk ask for David. Top bloke.

second the call to david.

may be a head gasket - but more likely bearing failure.

oh.

have you been running on at least optimax (and booster).

if you do a search you will find that the imported cars really need the "good stuff" as far as petrol goes. using tesco (or similar) unleaded will result in engine failure sooner rather than later.

also top speed runs and even incorrect service procedure (i.e not priming oil filter before fitting) can also be responsible for bearing failure

I think youre right Butty.

I wont change the oil ever again now.LOL

Sounds like this case could be related to the oil change, although not sure about the overheating.

API David is the man to see about this.

Sorry to hear about the engine failure.(Yet another one bites the dust)

thedogs,

Give me a call on 01926 614522 and l'll talk you through the options. It will almost certainly be a big end failure.

There has been a rash lately or is it that the owners of these cars are getting more into S/net and posting about it. I talk to about 12 people a week with similar problems all over the country and it's a surprising number who have either just bought the car or just had a service.

We're repairing a car now that didn't make 4 miles after a 'Full' service. The problem was that the garage decided in their wisdom that the engine needed a flush and promptly filled it with engine flush ran it for a while then refilled with XYZ simething or other. KAAABOOOOOm as you say.

Don't use flush guys and DON'T use oil with a lower viscosity that 10W something.
