Apologies for this long message....
Hi there, I've been lurking on the board for a few months and I get my MY00 next week. I was going to get MY01 next year but coming round a left hand bend last week in my 2.0 Focus a tractor was coming the other way in the middle of the road. I don't know the mechanism of what happened exactly, but mid bend I think I put more lock on and possibly lifted-off (but didn't brake) and I might have set up some oversteer - difficult I know in FWD. Anyway, then I was out of control coming onto the straight with larger oscillations from over-correction and I ended up going at 45 degrees sideways off the road at 50mph through a stone wall and turning upside down into a field. However, all I have had is a sore neck for a few days. The car looks horrendous - like some fatals I have seen (I am a doctor). Impressed by how it crashed though!

I don't want to crash the Scoob and I expect the handling will be even safer than the Focus. However, can't find any Euro NCAP crash tests on the Scoob (Focus gets top marks).

Not really relevant, but the Legacy came top overall in crash tests in the US (and it is really just a bigger Impreza - with a bit more sophistication )

There were never any Euro NCAP tests on Scoobs cos they only test cars with bigger market shares, unfortunately.

Do the SIDC driving course!!!

In fact do it whilst what happened is still fresh in your mind.

No one expects to crash, but it will certainly help reduce the possibility of it happening again and the skid control lessons may have kept you on the road.

There is no substitute for driving a car in a skid, for learning what to do and more importantly, what not to do. For example, just pushing the clutch in (and only the clutch) will return full control in almost all situations.

The courses are *FREE* to SIDC members.

Paul,

Actually, there is an NCAP equivilant test carried out on an australian market car, togther with a Quicktime move on the FIA site http:www.fia.com.

This model wasn't fitted with an airbag, but the results should provide some guideline.

Rgds,

Alex
