Default Vibrating heat sheild

The heat sheild above my backbox has come loose and vibrates, usually at low revs. Just got the car and its peeing me off already. Can i just rip it off ? If not what should I do ?

There's been a lot of threads elsewhere that may give you some ideas. Gen Tech/MY03 high in car temp - Drivetrain/Very Rusty Heatshield.

In general, any heat shield is there to protect adjacent components - so regardless of position of heatshields on any part of exhaust system, any advice is probably the same.

i had a rattle on my old classic. was told by an exhaust fitter that the only reason for them being there is to stop grass catching fire when parked in a field.
do not know how true this is though.
had mine taken off and was fine.

aftermarket exhausts do not have them!!!!!!!!

Mine did that as well. I believe it's a 'feature' on all scoobs.
I had a replacement back box put on anyway, and the noise was gone.
There's one further forward as well though isn't there? Are you sure it's not that one as well?

i have heard that if you can get the bolts undone. if still quite new. you should put a couple of washers between both sides of the heat sheild. that way the sheild will not be as close to the exhaust and wont get as hot. helping it not to fracture when you go through puddles.

Not sure if the middle one is loose as well. Ill whip the backbox one off first. And if there noise from somewhere ill investigate further.
