Hi Im new to the site and am looking to buy my first Scooby at the moment. I have sourced one that I am very keen on but need some advice about what to look for when inspecting it. It is a 1994(L) 2000 turbo wagon and is totaly standard except the wheels. It has 69k on the clock and I have verified its history (only 2 previous owners first one had it till 2002) It has been fully serviced (every 6 months but now needs a major service (90K service for my peace of mind) and has a few dings, the sort of stuff you expect from a 10 year old car. I am happy with the condition coz I am getting a good price but need to know what else too look out for, anything specific? what is all this 'Knocking' lark and is it easily noticed (Remembering I haven't driven a scooby before) I do have a sound(ish) understanding of mechanics so I should know what you are talking about!

check as for any used car, also listen out for transmission whine. scoobys run rich so exhaust will be blacker than non turbo cars. the "knock" is pinking from the engine, jap imports are supposed to run on 100 octane fuel, using normal unleaded could cause pinking. check out sidc site they have lots of info

Sound advice from ScoobyK. You also need to be sure about accidents etc, run an HPI on the car through the Web, about £35 I think. If really nervous get an MoT done, good way to cover lots of areas for a cheap cost by someone independant and it only takes an hour! A sound seller will not object to this, split the cost?

Being a Wagon does not absolve it from being a hard driven car, might even have been used for towing too, so keep your eyes open.

If it is a good one you will have grat fun, then there are all those happy hours modifying it!
