Just tried searching for info on the normal kind of things to look for, but couldn't find it easily.
Is there a standard list of things to check on a 98' Scoob 5dr, which is what I'm now looking for?

I'm guessing it would:
MOT, V5, FSH and other normal paperwork
Verifying the body condition for accidents
Clutch, gearbox for wear
Turbo and exhaust for leaks

Any other obvious things?

 

Piston slap is a recurring subject that comes up when talking about 98 cars.
Do a search for that, and you`ll get plenty info.

 

Indeed, the piston slap should have been sorted under warranty, either with a new short block motor or a replacement piston kit.

Also watch out for bad clutch judder; that should have been fixed as well under warranty.
