I think the bad smell in my motor is not my nike's after all! could be the a/c?
Is there a drip tray or anything like a filter that can be changed? my old mans mondeo (yuk!) dripps an overflow onto the drive, mine doesnt do anything like this.

Also is 10 40 magnatec oil ok in a wrx classic?

I'm far from an expert on this stuff but was led to believe that air con systems should be used occasionally throughout the year to keep the seals healthy and also to clear any potential for a smell to develop. I was also told than if parking up for a while then you should switch the air con off some little while before the end of the journey to allow things to dry out and so prevent a smell. Now, exactly which things do the drying out I don't know so I appreciate this isn't much help to you but perhaps it will get others to chip in, if only to correct my mistakes.

 

i use to get this in my saab 93 maybe its cos gm own abit of subaru? it would small only when it was put on for about 5 min's ish, never did stop the smell

 

Halfords sell an air con flush, that's supposed to kill any bacteria build up that cause these smells.

It's about £15.

On the subject of aircon...

Does anyone else get a quickly steamed up window the moment you turn a/c off but keep the fan blowing?

My window becomes almost wet if I do that

Very true, use it every week.

A/C dries air - in the summer you may get a puddle of water under the car, this is the moisture being drawn out of the air by the a/c.
By switching the A/C off you are no longer removing the moisture out of the air and so the moisture will go into the cabin.
All quite normal, that's why a/c in the winter is very good at clearing misted windows by blowing dry warm air onto the screen.

Buy the air con flush stuff and spray it into your ducts to kill bacteria and stop the smell

 

Yep, I'm sure I've heard somewhere the sweaty smell is the bacteria coming out of the compressor... nice.
