I want to change the crappy rubber gear stick gaiter on my bugeye can anyone tell me how to get the thing off?

I can get the gear **** off it's the gaiter i'm having trouble with,it looks like the consol needs to come off for this but unsure as to how to remove it ,i don't want to force it and break stuff.Any advice welcome.

You do have to be fairly forceful to "pop" the clips that hold it in place, and you are right, you do have to remove that part of the console, i had to do the same to fit the gaitor surround on my 03. Your best bet is to try and "pop" it off where it goes thin near the handbrake lever, once you have released one the rest are easy to get off and the console will come away.
