just wondering why the jap cars have more power than the uk ones?

My guess is that the Japs keep all the good stuff for themselves and export the lower spec models to everyone else.

Different engine bits and more aggressive engine maps.

Partly because the Japanese have access to higher octane fuel than we do and tend to have a quite different driving cycle, and partly because FHI perceive that base horsepower figures are more important to Japanese customers than they are to buyers elsewhere in the world.

Plus, the engine is probably under less stress due to the imposed speed limiter (113mph?), so they can afford to give the engine a bit more power.

Wot`s speed got to do with it. How much time do you spend driving about at over 113mph? Its reving the nuts off them that causes the stress.

You will probably find that emissions have alot to do with it.
Technologically though the new JDM cars are a BIG step above what you get over here.
