...im pretty sure mine is leaking and want to know if the uk scooby matrix will flow coolant even when control is turned to cold (does the control move a flap to control airflow or a valve to shut off coolant flow to the matrix)

On the uk 99 it is a constant flowing matrix without a valve.

The heat is controlled by the flap

You could probably loop the pipe under the bonnet to stop it from leeking.
If you need one I can supply you with a matrix.
I feel sorry for the bugger who has to fit it though

 

Fitting is not as bad as you might think. I did it on my MY96 took about 6hrs total and thats without knowing what I was doing. Personally I was unhappy with quotes of upward of £5-600 for someone else to do it.

Cost me about £90 all in (second hand matrix, antifreeza etc)

As long as you take your time and can live with seeing the interior very very empty it's definately doable. I know that someone else did theirs shortly after I did mine and they agreed it wasn't that bad.
