Default MY03 WRX (5-door) Steering Wheel

Got the above with PPP a year ago and have enjoyed every moment since, but the HUGE Momo wheel fitted as standard is, well, HUGE. Apart from feeling like a minibus wheel, the lack of reach adjustment (and my own stumpy arm:leg ratio) means my knees knock it every time I change gear. What I want is the STi wheel (pref w/o badge) (or similar) which I believe is smaller. Trouble is the local dealer won't do it for "safety reasons" (unless the cabin/column of the STi is somehow different, I don't see what).

So, first - is it easy to swap the wheel with another? What about the airbag connections (at the very least, I don't want the bag going off mid-bend!)? Will the indicator cancelling etc. still work?

Second, any other recommendations? Same questions as above + if they don't have airbag, how do I un-light the warning light (short of removing the bulb) ?

Third - any ideas for adding an inch or two to the column (on the car that is)?
