The garage thats fitting my decat downpipe reckons they need to modify the heatshield for it to fit? Is this true on an MY98 UK Turbo? How important is it?...

I'm thinking of telling him just to chuck it, or is that a bad idea?...

Very bad idea to chuck it. Subaru put it there for a reason. Only takes 2 minutes to cut. You'll be glad in the long run.

In theory a decat will move the heat away from the turbo more quickly so it should run cooler and would be ok.

I have run several cars now without them and never had a problem, but if you can get it back on then I'd advise you to do so.

I usually didn't bother but that was usually 'cos I was so frustrated and just couldn't be arsed.

I didnt need to cut mine but then again HKS stuff is made to on without any problems

 

So your downpipe still blanks off the wastgate then
