I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Ordered myself a WR1 but now find myself been pulled towards the Jap Sti.

Is there some feed back and views on this out there ?

 

not many people gonna be able to say mate as no one has a wr1 yet, I have a new jdm sti, and i can honestly say compared to anything else i have driven its the most fun, fastest and reliable car i ever had.

Each time i get people in the car, accelerate hard, the car just goes total quiet for about 5 mins, or someone starts gigling lol, its mad.

But as for performance, its unreal love the car wouldnt be without it, the wr1 ok it has 18s and better susp but thats it, as far as i know you get a better car apart from teh wheels and susp, which oyu can buy for about 2k. I think you could get a brand new 04 sti for 22-24k in any color you want, spend 2-3k on it and have much stronger engine, not even considering one myself, if i had that sort of money would be lookin at t25

 

There is no such thing as "the" Jap STi, there are at least three different specification/performance levels in the range, so, probably the best question to ask yourself is which one you're being drawn towards.

Are you asking yourself this question because you want WR1-type performance at a lower price, or are you asking yourself this question because you want "better than WR1" type performance at a similar to slightly lower price?

 

I was looking at the same kind of performance for a little less price.
at 30k for the WR1, but the feel of having one of only 500 does sound nice.

Type 25, £34 grand, not this time round, no pennies left.

 

Exactly the same situation here, i'm going for the WR1 for peace of mind in warrenty situations.

I wonder what the 3rd party warrenties would be like should you have to claim for anything major on an import.

 

That's a tricky one, bit of a swings and roundabouts situation. You could get the JDM STi GL, but, out of the box, it'll be under 300bhp, and so you'd be looking at a remap to get the same sort of feeling under your foot as you would from a WR1 (and also to get the car running properly on our fuel).

Also differences with springing and wheels to consider...

On the other hand, the current JDM STi's have the equal length headers and twin scroll turbo, which would give you a bit of an edge over a WR1 once you'd got the remap done.

The other thing to consider is that being only one of 500 should help the residuals when you come to sell it on.

 

Looks like I'm staying with the WR1.
hope she is as good as she looks
