Default No resonator - what effects would it cause

Hello folks,

going to fit original airbox back onto car Impreza MY94, removing HKS induction kit. Want to see what effects it has on performance, AFR readings etc.

Question is: I dont have the resonator to fit. Would it make a difference or not - and would a guide tube do instead if I really need it?

Thoughts?

There are several people in the USA who have removed the resonator to improve flow, and I believe there was an autospeed article on it too.

General gist will be it will be a little better flow without rather than with the resonator (maybe 2bhp or something), but also noisier, IIRC.

Exclamation

but the problem with removing it is you could get water ingress into and past the filter and onto the maf

So is it better to add a pipe as well then?

Don't want water to mess the air mix etc.

there are more problems that could arise by taking it off than leaving it where it is!

Hey how did you get the Scoobyecu custom mapped?

It would be great to meet you on this upcoming 'day-out' on 6th June!

I replaced the resonator with 90 & 45 degree 3" drain bends and had no water/twigs etc coming in for a year - It made all sorts of whistles and blowing noises - a sort of poor mans BOV.
Can't say it really did anything else that was noticeable.
