A guy I know who rallys an ex wrc Scooby and is fairly clued up, told me not to run Pro Boost octane booster with Optimax as they can react with each other causing none of the products to really do their jobs right?
Have any of you guys heard this or is it mearly myth??

 

That depends on if is scooby was mapped for english petrol, or made in britain in the first place

If you've got an import you have to use it as they are mapped for a higher ron and you run the risk of blowing your engine if you do'nt

 

He uses race fuel in his car. I know you have to use a booster in an import car (for it to be at it's best anyway) but what i'm asking is if "Pro Boost" and "Optimax" don't mix?

don't think pro boost works with any fuel stick with millers or better still NF

What complete crap

ProBoost will work with any 'pump' fuel to increase the Octane rating - it will mix without any problem....... as to its actual effectiveness, well its pretty f*cking useless..........

Millers is better than ProBoost and is much cheaper.......

If you want proper booster then go for NF Race booster (if you can get hold of it!!)

Re Race fuel - if you use this then you dont need booster - the Oxygen content of the fuel is enhanced (with varying degrees which cost up to £7 per litre!!) which has a large effect on power, i.e. not just from increased octane levels (Octane levels are just one variable) - 76racing.co.uk I think thats the site do race fuels as an alternative, but you need to be pretty rich to run with this stuff - but far better than any octane boosters!!

Biggest problem with "funny" fuels isn't so much the cost as that you're tied to your supply. It's all very well having a 50 gallon drum of the stuff at home, but what if you want to go to Cleethorpes for the weekend???

 

If I wanted to go to Cleethorpes from Scotland I'd take the bus

 

I've been told that there is nothing wrong at all with using booster with optimax but better results are had using booster with other super unleaded fuels. This is because of the way optimax is formulated.

Don't know how true or not this is but its what I've been told, take as you will.....

My thoughts exactly

 

I understand that Optimax achives 98.3 RON by the addition of booster additives over the distilate RON when manufacture is complete. I understand that some other super petrols are distilled to 97 RON with no additive. I am also told that at least one fuel company, in certain parts of the country, adds a booster to make their 95 RON into Super.
I am interested in these things but there are so many stories and counter stories circulating it is difficult to know who to believe.
Anybody know a genuine fuel expert/

Optimax plus booster works very well, better than ordinary Super plus booster, tried it both ways, you have to bear in mind that Optimax has a different "burn" to Super so a std ecu may run the car rich. certainly best results when remapping are achieved with optimax as a base. STi5/6's are normally kept "happy" if they are run on Optimax plus 2 ron.

However as Steve mentions if you use a genuinely improved fuel ie race type then thats another ball game, I have been VERY impressed with VPower when I have mapped cars to it.
