A front mount intercooler made a noticeable difference to may car but to achieve the best from the cooller air i need an ecu/remap...

Depending on which FMIC you go for you may have to remove pia's,aircon and cut some of your bumper...

IMO its a mod well worth doing...

I bought mine through a groupbuy on here... if you have a look in drivetrain section ther's a 2nd group buy running although it maybe late for more participants.
Mines a Hybrid imported from HongKong/Australia. The price was excellent around £400 including tax. It came with hard chromed pipes.
Only downside was having to cut the bumper so much. I retained the air con and pia's
My motor is laggy as it is (VF22 turbo) and with the FMIC i havn't noticed any further lag...

Go for it mate you know you want to

P.s you will need supporting safety mods.. Uprated fuel pump and fuel pressure reg to help prevent the engine running lean... i'm still running on standard pump at the mo.. awaiting delivery for uprated fuel pump.

This business about causing lag is a myth if the intercooler and associated pipework is properly designed.
There will be a further Hybrid G.B. when the second one is completed successfully.

I was planning to start a third group buy in May when the second group buy is successfully concluded. The GB closed in February. That assumes group buys are still allowed. See the posts by Webmaster in General regarding group buys.
Alternatively I can arrange one out with the group buy and if you want to take this course e-mail me. harveysmith1@btopenworld.com

Harvey, are you saying that this I/C doesn't 'really' cause lag even compared to a TMIC on a TD04 ?

Cheers,

Mark

I fitted a Hybrid FMIC with a TD05 and TBO haven't noticed any additional lag. The only issue associated with an FMIC and a TD04 may be it may struggle due to its lower flow capacity with a large volume Intercooler and additional pipework.

Cheers

the extra pipework and presumably larger intercooler must have a larger volume that the standard top mount. is it therefore not fair to say that there will be an increase in turbo lag?

The additional lag is almost impeceptible on a properly designed system.
Work it out for yourself. Take the CFM flow rate of the engine at given rpm then compare the extra air added to the O/E system.
Another one of the Scooby myths exposed I think.
The throttle body temps will typically be 10 deg C lower in the cruise too so the benefits are quite considerable.

Sounds good - Given that I've just had a remap - (UK 98 Turbo, SAMCOs, K+N Panel, Full TSL Decat) from Power Engineering (The daughter board job) - I guess I'm stuck till I can afford both FMIC and another map (Assuming that I can get this done...)

Cheers for now anyhow,

Mark
