Does £380 include the proximetry sensor or is that extra? [the one where it churps if you get too close]

What extras can be added to this system?

I think you mean Rich.
And yes, if you're looking for a good installer, he da man! I travelled up from London and I have, on several occasions over the past year and a half, been very glad I made the trip. Their after sales service is superb.

I have just sent this e-mail to RAM Mobile Wakefield and Clifford

Am i having bad luck or what?

Askyourself What would Scooby doo....................

Thanks Phil

I have spoken to a couple of companies that are Clifford suppliers and fitters down here in Oxfordshire, it seems that the Blackjax concept is hardly used by anybody because of the reliance on this switch, when it fails you can’t do anything with your car.

I realise it not a problem with your company, but the poor quality of the Clifford product and its even worse concept of having to keep pressing this switch.

I will take every opportunity to tell people about the Clifford product, as I regularly post on car forums and I am active Subaru club member.

Three Alarms and it still fails in well under a year, is not a track record that Clifford should be proud, and I shall make sure that it is known to potential buyers of the system.

Prodrive Andy: I have got a C500 and it was fitted to my new MY03 last year, after 3 replacement alarms and it's still not working I can’t believe you are using Blackjax.

The alarm was fitted by RAM Mobile Wakefield an authorised fitter and the last by Interpart Didcot all under warrantee.

And don’t say its me because I have been to another Clifford dealer in my area and the plain view switch is pants and he said so.
I believe the term he used was an poorly thought out piece of technology.

Interpart told me that of all the units fitted he only new of one person that wanted Blackjax turned on and after only a few months wanted the feature turned off

Ajax,

I can only comment on my car and not yours...
My alarm was also fitted by an authorised clifford dealer in Sheffield (technicar)

my car is not used on a daily basis, weekend toy and is therefore not constantly being hammered...
And if it fails I will call out subaru assistance to recover the car (no problems)
If subaru call into question the cost of the recover the tab will be picked up by clifford not me..

So either way I don't really care.....

If your not happy ask for your money back and rip out the piece of Shi*!!!!!

Prodrive Andy:

Your circumstances are not that different to mine.

Clifford Alarm fitted on a brand new Subaru Impreza by Authorised dealers each time and has had light use.

I have complained direct to Clifford customerservices@clifford-uk.com this week and have had a reply from Mr Mark Allen, he remembers the case of the Subaru which has had three replacement alarms in under one year old.

This is what he said, I will arrange for your car to be taken to another Clifford dealer and a mutually convenient time and I will stand with them while your is put into working order and set up to my requirements, in his presents.

My only reservation to this is that the switch will pack up again in 3 months time!

Well you cant say fairer than that, Clifford customer Services do seem to care about their customers.

I still firmly believe that the reliance of Blackjax on a cheep plain view switch is an issue, and this is not just my opinion but the opinion of a number of their authorised installers.

I am not sure of your circumstance but are you sure that the Clifford alarm is covered under your Subaru assistance?

I would be interested to know if any one has similar experience to me with Blackjax?

Anybody

ive got a clifford concept 500 in mine wth blackjax as well not had a single problem with mine (apart from the battery cell dying in one of the remotes).

Speak to Rich at motorguard he did a cracking deal on the 500 and it persuaded me to not go for the concept 300 or the sigma m30.

blackjax is well worth it IMHO, it will prevent theft if the keys are stolen which seems to be more and moe common these days.

Ajax, i know a few people with blackjax who havent had any problems, maybe you have just been very unlucky or maybe it could be down to the installer ?. looks like you have had a good response from clifford and I can recomend you taking it to motorguard in aston (near birmingham) to get it sorted it is well worth the trip.

cheers

Pbee: Thanks for the positive feedback, I have spoken to Mark from Clifford (Direct Electronics)

He has arranged for Interpart at Didcot, Oxon to have the car booked in for the 5th April 2004 so that Andy can check it over.

We spoke at length about the reliability and good customer care offered by Clifford and its dealers.

Now one line of thought is that fluctuations in the electrics in my Subaru could be effecting the switching.

Mark from Clifford and Andy one of their top alarm fitters is going to sort this out once and for all and is going to use all sorts of diagnostics to find the problem, with the assurance it will be sorted.

All the dealers & Clifford have acted in an exemplary manner, I am pleased to report.

I Just happen to own a new Subaru WRX and had a Clifford C500 Alarm fitted from new at authorised dealers RAM Mobile, Wakefield and the story goes on from there.

Now, eleven moths later and three alarms that have failed and I wonder why?

Thanks for all the positive comments, I am still interested to hear any thoughts about BlackJax and the plain view switching.

Thumbs up

Ajax,

No probs here. Had Blackjax on the car for close to 2 years. Fitted by the highly recommended Dr Clifford @ Motorgard.

Edited to add: car is used daily.

This is not sounding promising to me as I was planning on getting a concept 600 and Blackjax fitted to my MY00 when I come over to the UK at Christmas...

I would hate to get back to Germany and for it all to go **** up aspecially as the Clifford dealers here do not install Clifford anymore but something called Viper, apparently Clifford radio frequencies are not approved in Germany.

What is the problem with blackjax and this on display switch then?

you can mail me offline if you are not happy posting sensetive stuff here.

Cheers
Steve

I think Viper are part of the same company that owns Clifford, Directed Electronics.

If you do decide to go ahead, you could do a lot worse than get the system installed by Motorgard in Birmingham. The reason I say this is that the after sales service is superb. Expert knowledge is always available which is essential if something goes wrong. It's the difference between being stranded, then having to transport your vehicle to a dealer and getting things running again via a simple phone call.

Wurzle:

One of the problems is that BlackJax is not intelligent, it assumes that certain scenarios are car jacking’s and it is up to you to say its not.

Ie Get the cat out of the garage give somebody a lift, return and put your car away.
That is about six multi press confirmations to do that trip.

Now the problem is that the code switch is the only way to tell it, so if that fails it treats you like a carjacker, not an experience you would want to repeat.

You cold be miles from any ware and locked out of your own car or immobilised on a busy roundabout with no way of turning it off.
