WR1 on order - Best way to deter thieves and vandals
Okay, after many, many years I've finally got around to being able to buy a brand new car and have got a deposit down on the WR1.
What's the best way to protect her against someone stealing the car or against breaking in and damaging the car, short of hiring a couple of minders to watch over her 24 hours a day.
I'd like people's views on best alarm system (especially if I can connect up turbo timer too). Guess I should go anti-hijack?
Is the Tracker system that comes with the car any good or should I change to something else?
Years ago you could get a film to go on the inside of windows to make them shatter proof, is that stuff still available or any good.
Lastly, I'm in the Essex area (Chelmsford/Colchester/Ipswich etc) so if anyone replying knows anywhere local to me that they could recommend that would be great.
I want to enjoy the car, not worry whenever I'm not driving her...
Thanks

Get rid of the Sigma system and go for a Clifford 500 or 600
You will get the anti hijack feature as standard on these 2 alarms but you have to ensure you get it fitted by a reknown fitter and not a muppet (turbo timer is an option
)

If your from Chelmsford/Colchester/Ipswich then try asking on Scoobycity as they are an East Anglia based subaru club.
Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking now maybe I'll listen to Phil and save my pennies instead. If the tracker fitted is good enough then maybe I'll upgrade the cd or go for a LRC100 or something. Still got a few months to think things over
Thanks everyone.
Anyone else want to add anything please feel free...

At the time I had just gone self employed and was working 14 hour days plus 4 hours a day driving. Funny thing was I always found the time in the Scooby relaxing...Anyhow, been meaning to join up again and saw you do the lifetime membership now. Think I may go for that, perfect for me

You still do driver training through SIDC? Probably would be good to learn how to use the DCCD-A.

I have the first four issues of True Grip but notice some of the issues between then and now are not available for purchase. Will you be doing reprints or black and whites on these at some point? Also, can I buy True Grip from last year?
Thanks

It's same spec as STI plus:
PPP to 320 bhp,
DCCD-A for manual torque distribution between front and rear wheels
Uprated springs and bump-stops with lowered 25 mm lower ride-height.
18-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels with Pirelli PZero tyres
new Ice Blue Metallic paint
driving lamps
anthracite instead of blue suede-effect seats
a special gear ****!
imaged carpet mats (still not sure what these are like)
a numbered tax disc holder.
Oh and lets not forget the stainless steel mesh grille
I've been told it also has quick ratio steering rack though not 100% sure of this. Subaru don't list the steering rack on their site.

Watch out for the new regs on front door windows though.

I have got a C500 and it was fitted to my new MY03 last year, after 3 replacement alarms and it's still not working I can’t believe you are using Blackjax.
The alarm was fitted by RAM Mobile Wakefield an authorised fitter and the last by Interpart Didcot all under warrantee.
And don’t say its me because I have been to another Clifford dealer in my area and the plain view switch is pants and he said so.
I believe the term he used was an poorly thought out piece of technology.
Interpart told me that of all the units fitted he only new of one person that wanted Blackjax turned on and after only a few months wanted the feature turned off

Dipol gear stick lock is excellent got one on mine.
locks it in reverse with a steel bolt. cost around £200 from tsl motorsport.
also recognised by subaru insured etc. so should get u a discount..
also disc lock steering wheel lock is very good around £70 from halfords etc..
you need as many visual deterrants as possible to deter the tw@ts.
get yourself a decent alarm but I will not recommend one as there is too many handbags at dawn on this site, again in my opinion .......

Sorry to hear you are still having problems Ajax m8.
I remember the good old days when my old dad used to pop the bonnet of his car & whip the rotor arm out of the distributor cap, then with it tucked in his pocket off he would go to do his shopping.
Very low tech solution but effective.

You know me, never on to go handbags a dawn with anybody, and I always give credit when its due.
But this Clifford Alarm issue really take some believing, I used to remove the wire from the coil on my old Mini, fecked without it.
Even the concealed hidden ignition switch is a good idea plus it did not cost over £500 to fit it.
By the way are you going to the Fast Show at Santa Pod on the 28th March 2004

yeah, that's the stuff. Will give them a call. Curious as to why they have pentagon-colchester in their url but the site lists them in london. Do they have more than one location?

I once locked my keys in my old Escort. And a guy in the car park with a Cortina saw my plight & offered to try his key.Which worked a treat.
Well
that it got me in but
that any Ford key would do.Tried his in my ignition just to see but thankfully they did not work.
Pentagon (Colchester) where I had mine done in March 03 are actually at :-
Unit 3 Commerce Way,
Dale Hall Industrial Estate,
Manningtree,
CO11 1UN

had blackjax on my last two scoobys excellent bit of kit never had a problem with it
You should think about it if someone nicks your keys which is the way they pinch cars now you will lose the car no matter what alarm / locks you have got
With Blackjax they will get 500 yards and the engine will cut out getting them away from you while you phone the police
Clifford IMHO are by far the best alarms IF fitted by a good installer
