Angry Need some help!

The story goes...

I had insurance on my old car with Autonet and cancelled on january for my Impreza.

I previously had three years NCB (not with Autonet) and gained an extra year with Autonet. I continued on with the policy for another 5 months and a guy offered to buy my car in which i sold, knowing I would loose the 5 months. Doing so, i cancelled the policy and everything seemed to fine until recently I received a letter from my old insurance saying that i owe them £400 for cancelling the policy and they will not release my NCB to my new Insurance who are pushing for it!!!!

Surely that cant be right??

I have signed a legal agreement for insurance on my car and so when I have sold the car, does not terminate the contract!??

I was paying for insurance and why do I need to pay this when I no longer have the car!??? I did not give them any hassles over the period I was with them and had no claims!

Autonet were getting a credit company to fund them while I pay the insurance monthly via Direct Debit. I received a letter from the credit company saying they were having problems receiving my payments but that was when I cancelled the policy. A few weeks later, I received another letter from them which said I was to disgard the previous letter as Autonet had not informed them of the cancellation.

So now it looks like Autonet are trying to con the money from me by saying it is some sort of percentage for the next 5 months!!

Can anyone offer some help or advice here!!???

Much appreciated if you can!

Hi Scoobiz7,

Most insurance companies charge a fee to cancel a policy, usually 8-10% or the equivalent ogf one months premium, so presuming your insurance is not £4800 then I'd say they're trying to rip you off..... (Trust me i work at dare i say it.... and insurance company... ! But in IT not policies !

Paul.
