my insurance is due soon, question is, can i keep my NCD etc. if i dont want to renew my policy straight away and leave it for a couple of months

No problem. You should be able to keep your NCD active for a couple of years without insuring a car.

 

i guess you just ask them to send you proof of no claims etc. then send that on when i start up a policy again

Your renewal notice should have details of your no-claims entitlement; hold on to it.

As for the length of time, g/f did exactly that a few years back. Hadn't had a car for a couple of years and had no problems transferring the no claims.

 

 

Most companies will go back 2 years, a handful 3 years and less for longer.

I was told 6 months, but that was 4 years ago... Worth checking tho.

Funnily enough, I am with Flux and have just told them the same after their renewal was around 50% more than last year. Another claim free year, and I've turned 30, and have had a kid, so I'm obviously a worse risk than last year

The chap told me that they'd paid out stupid amounts on imprezas last year tho.

 

they might be cheap(ish) but everytime i change any details on my policy they charge me 30 quid! had do it about 3 times last year - almost 100 quid in admin

 

So did you find out if it was 6 months, 2 years or whatever?

 

Trust me, it's two years.
